Now Playing: Disadvantages of Internet Marketing
Topic: Testing Your market

Have you found your Niche yet? Testing the market for internet marketing comes after you have found your niche. In fact, the definition of internet marketing is finding your niche . This all boils down to the area of market research so you can avoid the disadvantages of internet marketing.

One of the easy ways to do this is to gather information from industry associations and resources. I like going to the library and talking to the reference librarian about periodicals, magazines, government agencies and doing web searches. You do this because you must really understand the market you have picked. Gaining a sense of the type of customer your product will serve is very important and you will be able to do this through the process of research .

Typically, if you don't know if your product will appeal to the retired set, you should include a sample of that population in your research . This small item will prove invaluable in determining the value of your idea.

Having a research plan that spells out the objectives of your research should give you the information you need to either go ahead with your idea, fine tune it or take another look at the product. In your plan, you should have a listing of several questions that need to be answered in your research and then you should have a plan for answering them. If you have access to experts , use them during planning and research times. Experts can recommend what type of research is most appropriate at what time.

The type of product or service you want to market will depend on the type of research and information gathering you should do. The research should be designed to determine a potential market and to find out who your competition is . It will also help to determine your web positioning. Having a tangible item, it will help to let your audience see the item. For intangibles, showing descriptive text or a draft website could be very helpful in making a clearer communication about the product.

Here are some other suggestions for doing this. Try to conceive of your idea in terms of it's product/service features . What benefits will your customers receive and what messages are you relaying to your customers. You will need to be aware of who is actually going to buy the product. That is, will it be the purchasers, the influencer or the actual end user.

This is very basic, but another method of research is call the SWOT analysis. This means that you analyze the strengths of your market, the product or the service. It's also important that you recognize the weaknesses of the product or service . This should enable you to understand everything about the product, such as flaws, high prices or potential threats.

This is a basic strategy to get you started with testing your market. At my Wealthy Affiliates site I have more detailed information which is included in the eight week course that you can sign up for. When you sign up you will have access to web hosting and several different programs for blogging about your products or you will be able to set up your own custom site.
